Vascular cause for stridor in infants.

چکیده
Case presentation A 6-month-old infant presented with a longstanding persistent cough, episodic spells of shortness of breath, gasping-like efforts after feeding, and an unusual noise while breathing, and was reported to have turned blue on two occasions after feeding. A chest X-ray showed significant narrowing of the trachea 2 cm above the carina. An upper gastro-intestinal study (Fig. 1) showed anterior bowing and extrinsic compression of the posterior wall of the oesophagus at the mid-thoracic level, and the trachea was narrowed and showed anterior bowing. The differential diagnosis included an aberrant right subclavian artery, and a double aortic arch was suspected. A thoracic computed tomography (CT) angiogram (Fig. 2) confirmed the presence of a vascular ring created by a double-sided aortic arch with compression of the trachea and oesophagus.

Double Aortic Arch in an Infant With Persistent Stridor
In this case report, we present an infant who has a double aortic arch vascular ring anomaly. We emphasize the importance of maintaining a high level of clinical suspicion for vascular ring when evaluating an infant with the symptom of persistent stridor. Recognizing persistent stridor early and treating the underlying cause can, indeed, optimize outcomes. Case A 3-day-old boy presented to the ...

Introduction: Pneumonia is one of the most common infections during childhood. In children with recurrent bacterial pneumonia complete evaluation for underlying factors is necessary. The most common underlying diseases include: antibody deficiencies , cystic fibrosis , tracheoesophageal fistula and increased pulmonary blood flow. Vascular ring and its pressure effect is a less common cause of...
متن کاملStridor in a Newborn with Double Aortic Arch-A Case Report
Introduction: Double aortic arch (DAA) is a congenital anomaly of the aortic arch. It is the most common type of complete vascular ring. When it occurs, the connected segment of the aortic arch and its branches encircle the trachea and esophagus, leading to symptoms related to these two structures. Case Report: We present a case of a newborn baby who developed biphasic stridor immediately after...
متن کاملVascular ring: a cause of congenital stridor.
Stridor beginning at, or soon after, birth is not an uncommon symptom Such stridor is seldom severe, has a natural tendency to become progressively less marked, and in the majority of infants disappears entirely at the end of the first, or early in the second, year of life. Occasionally, some cause of laryngeal or tracheal obstruction is found and can, where possible and when necessary, be elim...
متن کاملManagement of stridor in neonates and infants.
Stridor is the sound caused by abnormal air passage into the lungs and can exist in different degrees and be caused by obstruction located anywhere in the extra-thoracic (nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea) or intra-thoracic airway (tracheobronchial tree). Stridor may be congenital or acquired, acute, intermittent or chronic. Laryngotracheal inflammation (croup) is the most common cause of acute st...
متن کاملNon-inflammatory laryngeal stridor in infants.
'Congenital laryngeal stridor' is merely a clinical description, and although perhaps 90 % of stridors in young babies are due to an exaggerated pattern of infantile larynx, which rectifies itself with increasing age, it is not safe to assume that this is the cause of the stridor. There are other conditions causing laryngeal stridor in young babies, sometimes from birth, which are graver than t...
